Hilary Duff- The Math

Even celebrities sing about math.....

Hilary Duff

The Math

Lyrics

You're always trying to figure out
What I am all about
If you don't know what the answer is
Then just shup up and kiss
It shouldn't take forever
To put it all together
CHORUS:
If you can't do the math
Then get out of the equation
I am calling you back, this is *69
Is it a minus or a plus
Does enough equal enough
If you can't do the math
If nothing adds up
Tell me why I'm here
Sure I want someone to understand
But I don't need the stress
I'm not about being analyzed
Like it's some kind of test
Don't have to be a genius
To figure what's between us
CHORUS
You can spend your whole life analyzing
Justifying, quantifying, and dividing
'Til there's nothing anymore
Well, why don't you just close your eyes
And kiss my lips and let it go
Just let it flow
It's what I'm waiting for
Don't have to be a genius
To figure what's between us
CHORUS 2x

  1. I think this is a great way to bring in the "outside" stuff that students are listening to into the classroom. I hated math in high school, but if I had walked in one day and was handed song lyrics and told to try and find the connection to math I would have loved it and it would have definitely gotten me engaged in the class.

  2. Students enjoy music and young celebrities. This is an awesome way to get them interested in a math topic, especially if they are fans of the singer!

  3. i think this is a great way to bridge the gap between home and school learning. I never knew that Hillary Duff sang a song about Math. I think students would really enjoy it.

  4. I love how you incorporated students outside interests with math. You could have them write their own lyrics about a math concept based on another popular song to make it multimodal.
